Recap / Update September 2009

We have been very active for the past 12 months, beginning with the Hurricane Gustav evacuation from New Orleans in early September. We partnered with Mountain Brook Community Church, Shades Mt. Community Church and Mission Birmingham to supply housing for over 70 evacuees from the Castle Rock Church in New Orleans. We supplied mattresses, linens and pillows from our warehouse, plus toiletries supplied by St. Vincent's Health System.

The members of MBCC played a huge part in the successful implementation of the materials on Sunday afternoon. In November we experienced the closing of Physicians Medical Center (Carraway) which was a medical center that had been in existence for over 100 years in Birmingham. We were blessed to be given all opened but unused medical supplies which turned into a nine week task! The recovered merchandise is still being sorted and packaged for shipment. Completion of this time consuming task was made possible by volunteers from Mt. Top Church, UAB School of Hospital Administration, Creekside Bible Study, Green Valley Baptist Church and others, but mostly by members of Mt. Brook Community Church. These volunteers sacrificed their Christmas Holidays to come to the hospital to gather, sort, box and palletize over 100 pallets of supplies for MedMission. Without their help we would not have been able to accomplish this task as quickly as we did.

The recovered supplies from Carraway have allowed MedMission to supply mission teams from Riverchase UMC, Vestavia UMC, Brookwood Baptist, Mt. Top Community Church, Valleydale Church, The Church at Brook Hills, Landmark Church of Christ, Shades Mt. Baptist, Kenya Relief, Mt. Bethel UMC (Marietta, GA) and others. The following is a listing of the countries they worked in with the number of teams we supplied in parentheses: South Africa (3), Peru (4), Kenya (3), Zimbabwe (1), Uganda (1), Sierra Leone (1), Honduras (3), Belize (1), Nicarauga (1), Palestine (1), Mexico (3), Venezuela (1), Hungary (1), Haiti (1), Cuba (1), Bolivia (1), Moldova (1) and the Dominican Republic (2). This is a total of 30 mission teams we have been able to assist thus far in 2009! Praise The Lord!!

We are excited about where God is leading us and the lives we will be able to impact through MedMission as we are: "Making a difference, one life at a time!"
